“Recording in Rahman sir’s studio was undoubtedly a standout experience from my first musical experience. Honest to God, it still is. When I entered that space, I was enthralled. John Anthony, a musician and longtime friend of his, was present. He answered all of our questions regarding the equipment and technicalities. What a valuable lesson that was! Rahman Sir wasn’t in the area. But he came back the day before we left. We waited to meet him, and he was incredibly modest and uplifting. One of the most memorable days of my life was that one. I had gotten much better at understanding music by this point. As a result, each time I listened to a song by Ilayaraja or Rahman, I had a brand-new, exciting experience. You simply hum and enjoy it as a regular listener. However, once you begin studying music, you become familiar with all of the ragas and charanas. Soon after, I learned about other genres I had never heard of, like jazz, metal, and other kinds. For me, it was enlightening. ‘I reflected, “There is so much music, so much of which I am unaware. You won’t believe this, but I still follow the same guiding principle today. I have no interest in being a music director or famous. I am aware that there is still a great deal to learn. I always push myself to perform better by keeping in mind the work that is being done elsewhere. Our music is so simple and straightforward here. I don’t particularly enjoy duet and item songs, which are frequently the only mainstream formats available. I try to work on films with a compelling plot that allow me to use music to narrate a story.
It’s been a pleasure for me to have since been able to write music for a few movies. Tharun and I both had low expectations for Pelli Choopulu when it was released. Our dedication and hard work were more the cause of it. I believe that when you love something and put your heart and soul into it, things turn out the right way. But it’s crucial to always be open to learning something new. I frequently get calls from aspiring musicians asking for my opinion or for a chance. That is not at all what I like. You can’t ask me for a chance just because you want to be somebody, after all. You should try to be more creative with your music, play a variety of songs, and send me some new songs. I would personally call you if I thought it was a good idea. I’m always willing to welcome new members to the team. That is the advice I would like to give to all aspiring musicians: try harder and don’t demand. Enjoy your work; a solution will appear soon.”
